Dr. Zandstra Will Care for Your Implants

Dr. Zandstra will do everything possible to save your teeth. But, if a dental implant is needed, you’re in good hands. She works with some of the top implant doctors to get you the implants you need and can help manage the care of your implants for the rest of your life. Dental implants are an excellent option for those seeking to replace one or more missing teeth or to affix a total arch replacement for those who’ve lost function in all of their natural teeth.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is an appliance used to replace the roots of teeth. The implant is surgically attached to the jaw bone and an artificial tooth is attached to the top of the implant, creating a natural-looking, undetectable replacement for the missing tooth.

Dental implants with artificial teeth are the closest thing to regrowing your natural teeth. They are strong, stable, durable, and virtually undetectable. By filling gaps left by missing teeth, implants can provide better chewing ability and head-off jaw joint problems.

Implant Teeth-in-a-Day

Dental implants with artificial teeth are the closest thing to regrowing your natural teeth. They are strong, stable, durable, and virtually undetectable. By filling gaps left by missing teeth, implants can provide better chewing ability and protect your facial bone and jaw by promoting bone growth instead of bone loss that is typical of traditional dentures.

Built to last, dental implants can last for decades with minimal effort and look, fit, and function just like your other healthy teeth around the implants. Once you have your implant, you won’t even think about it, so you can just enjoy life.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Do you wear dentures or have a mouthful of missing or failing teeth? Traditional dentures are not attached to anything and simply rest on the gums. This means that the denture can get dislodged when chewing and often limits the realistic selection of food choices for the denture wearer.

Fortunately, dentures can be attached to implants to help improve their fit and greatly increase chewing ability. As an added benefit, the implants prevent the steady bone loss caused by traditional dentures. Dentures attached to implants give support to the cheeks and lips creating a more youthful appearance. Speaking, chewing, swallowing, and smiling are also improved due to the confidence that results from having the dentures firmly secured in the mouth.

3-Steps to Getting Your New Tooth

Getting an implant isn’t as long a process as you think or as expensive or cutting edge. Dental implants have been in use since the 1970s, but the technology for placing them has steadily improved with the advent of 3D-guided dental surgery. Dr. Zandstra works with local, top oral surgeons to place your new dental implants effectively.

Step 1: Request Consultation

The first step of your treatment process is to request a consultation at Dr. Zandstra’s office. She’ll let you know what you should expect based on your situation and receive a comprehensive evaluation, which includes digital x-ray scans. In order to personalize your treatment, we’ll want to understand your smile goals. If you need any pre-implant procedures, we’ll determine if you’ll need a separate appointment or can have them completed on the day of your surgery by a trusted oral surgeon. Dr. Zandstra will then prepare the custom surgical guide to ensure the oral surgeon places your implants accurately and precisely.

Step 2: Surgery

There is nothing to worry about on the day of your dental implant surgery! We always first make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable. When you’re comfortable, Dr. Zandsta’s trusted oral surgeon will place a dental implant post into your jawbone using the custom guide Dr. Zandstra produced at your consultation appointment. The implant procedure will be over in about an hour. We’ll have a temporary dental crown ready to attach to your implant if its primary stability is efficient. That means you’ll have a complete smile when you leave on the day of your appointment so you can smile with confidence!

Step 3: Restoration

During the healing phase, the implant post(s) will integrate with the natural bone, fusing in a place like a tooth root. Dr. Estelle Zandstra will monitor the progress of your healing to ensure your dental implant will provide long-term support for your final tooth. When this phase is complete, you’ll return to our office to receive your final restoration. This dental crown will be made from strong porcelain or ceramic material and color-matched to your existing teeth. Our goal is to provide you with a permanent new tooth that can’t be distinguished from the rest!

Dental Implant Benefits

If you’re missing a tooth, a dental implant is the best choice to replace the root of the missing tooth and an abutment and crown affixed to that will make it look like your natural tooth was never missing, and the bone around that new implant will be restored improving your health.

With Dr. Zandstra’s expertise, she was able to alleviate all of her concerns. Through the use of porcelain veneers, she now has a smile she can be proud of and that gives her confidence.

“You will never, ever regret it. It’ll be the best thing you ever did. You’ll wish you did it ten years ago. I love the way I look.” ‑Anna L.

Fixed Dentures Changed Trish’s Life

Trish had traditional dentures and wanted to have the fixed, confident, youthful smile that she deserves. She was referred to Dr. Zandstra by her daughter and flew to Atlanta from California for her consultation with Dr. Zandstra and the oral surgeon. The next week Trish had 6 upper implants and 6 lower implants with temporary fixed lower teeth.

Trish then returned to Atlanta for her upper and lower fixed teeth, and Dr. Zandstra used digital technology to create the beautiful stable smile Trish has today!

Frequently Asked Questions About Implants

Whether it’s a single-tooth implant or several implants that are used to support a bridge or fixed dentures. Your oral health is important and we want to be sure your questions are answered and you feel good about the decision to move forward with your custom-designed plan to improve your health. View our frequently asked questions down below or contact our office for more details. We look forward to meeting with you and helping you get on the road to excellent oral health!

How do Dental Implants Work?

Dental implants consist of a titanium or zirconia screw that acts as a tooth root, an abutment (or connector), and a lifelike crown. Implants integrate with the bone to form a solid and stable connection over the course of about four to six months, after which Dr. Zandstra will permanently attach the appropriate implant restoration be it a single tooth or a full-arch replacement (fixed denture or bridge).

Why choose dental implants over other options?

Unlike other tooth replacement options, dental implants integrate with the jaw just like tooth roots, help preserve jawbone health, and most closely replicate natural teeth in look, feel, and function. Implants offer permanent, comfortable, and extremely stable tooth replacement, among other life-changing benefits.

Is the implant process painful?

Dr. Zandstra uses 3D CBCT imaging to plan the exact position of dental implants and guided implant surgery to precisely insert implants within the jaw bone. These techniques create a minimally invasive procedure, but we do offer IV sedation, complimentary nitrous oxide, and other options to ensure your total comfort during your implant visit.

What if I have bone loss in my jaw?

Even if you have jawbone loss, you can still be a candidate for dental implants! Dr. Zandstra is highly skilled at replacing lost bone and preparing the jaw for implant success with advanced bone grafting techniques.

How do I care for my dental implants?

Dental implants can replace any number of missing teeth, from one to an entire arch. But just because you have multiple missing teeth does not necessarily mean you need an implant for each missing tooth. For instance, we can replace an entire arch of missing teeth with only four to six implants and the attachment of a full arch prosthetic, or two to six implants and an affixed full denture.

Will insurance cover the cost of implants?

The cost of dental implants in Alpharetta, GA, varies depending on several factors, including the number of teeth to place, the need for tooth extractions or bone grafting, type of implant procedure, and overall oral health. A consultation with our team can determine what your personal implant cost might be.

Cliff A Talks about what sets the practice apart

Yeah, I think that a couple things that set this this practice apart from other places one is it is very personal You're not just another person coming in here to get another service done that anybody else can do for you You really are an individual to them and and that's really special The other thing I think that sets this practice apart is their treatment is so specific to exactly what you need You're not just getting a commodity here when when you're coming here You're getting something very specific to what meets your needs from a dental perspective

Cliff A Talks about his full mouth reconstruction

When I started coming about two and a half years ago, I had a lot of different dental issues going on. Some of it was because of grinding, some of it was because of long-term acid reflux, but really what was going on with my teeth, they were ground down quite a bit. They were also starting to chip.

I was starting to develop kind of fractures in teeth. Thankfully roots and everything were good, but I needed a lot of work done to actually be able to rebuild kind of my mouth from the ground up. So things weren't aligning anymore, and again, things were starting to crack and just get brutal.

Really what I ended up needing was somewhat of a full mouth kind of restoration, which involved crowning every tooth that I've got. So I've got 28 crowns. One of the things I remember specifically from Dr. Zandstra as we started is she's like, I look at these as 28 art projects, and it really was that special from tooth to tooth to tooth, how she kind of adjusted and went along the way and made everything look really perfect, but they still look like my teeth.

They still look like what would have naturally been me, and that really took a long time from coloring to shape to really tailor making kind of everything for me. And that not only made for a great looking end result, my bite's perfect now. I've never experienced anything like this.

So eating is different and a lot easier, and maybe especially I noticed more from my wife. She's like, you love to smile again, and that, I think that was the thing that capped it all off and made it really great, having her just notice the fact that I smile a lot more now because I had stopped smiling for quite a long time, and she's like, you just enjoy smiling again, and it's great.

Lossie L Talks about getting her smile back

Well, they helped me smile again without being embarrassed, without a doubt. I had some issues with my front upper teeth and had crowns that just didn't fit right and then kept breaking them, kept chipping them, kept breaking them over the years. And so I ended up having to come because I had broken one off again and I'd been to someone else through the years.

And they had referred me here. And she, Dr. Zandstra, did a great job. When I met her and talked with her, she seemed to just be real thoughtful, I guess, and that your smile is something that is critical, you know, how you feel about yourself.

And I smile a lot, so it was embarrassing when I'd smile when my teeth were not pretty. So now I'm smiling all the time.

Lossie L Talks about why someone should come to see Doctor Zandstra

I would just recommend Dr. Zandstra because she's, she's very professional, very professional. She takes, but she's kind and warm, so that, as the anxiety question you're asking about, she takes that off the plate immediately. But she does, she's very, you can tell she is a perfectionist at what she does, and she takes the time to be, to make it perfect.

Michael D Talks about what to expect when coming

Drive about 20 miles here and my son works at this practice or did work at this practice. He saw a lot of results from this appliance so I got a snore appliance and a day appliance and I'm sorry I don't call them what they're supposed to but I have a bad snoring problem and my wife is so happy now that I have this thing because it really helped out tremendously and the day appliance has also helped out and because of my life being so frustration you know a lot of frustration that it really calms me down so it's been great and everybody here has been great when I come into this place so it's very laid back it's and you know this room is so bright it is it's bright you ever go to a dentist's office it's in a building it's dark it's gloomy you know and everybody's always frightened but here it's it's you know there's no problems that we come here and doctor's answer is never in a rush just takes her time it's been it's been really great experience for us she's kind of holistic in a way because it's more than just working with the teeth or the appliances that that I have it's more of a body health and so that's been a real eye-opener for me as well.

Michael D Talks about how relaxing the visit is

Well, I believe that with anything that you go to, you want to feel welcomed. And so walking in the door and getting that hospitality that they give, that's calming. And to go down and sit in the chair and know that there's no real big rush.

You're not rushing in and rushing out. Dr. Zandstra comes in and she just takes her time with you and makes sure that everything's done before she leaves. So that right there is the best part of it all.

You know, when you go to the dentist, normally you go, you get your teeth cleaned, doctors in and out. And that's the visit. And this one, it's just more relaxing in that regard.

Doctor Jannie W. Talks about finding a place that understood her needs and desires

I believe that the journey to health begins with your mouth. Now I am assured of it because of my personal experience. Professionally, it's well documented, but let me tell you why I make that statement.

After having had various experiences with my mouth, I endured sleep apnea, I'm a runner, my breathing was impaired, and speaking publicly, as I'm often called to do, I had a really innate fear of having a removable prosthetic in my mouth, maybe coming out one day and speaking. I walked with the temporary glue and all of those things because that was my life. And I met her and I shared that with her and I challenged her.

And we looked at literature. She met me where I was intellectually. She met me emotionally when I said, I'm 65.

Why do I need to do this right now? Why should I spend this funds at this moment in my life? I'm ready to go to the sunset. Why do I need to do this? She was patient. She shared examples of others.

And then the journey began. It began not only with her, but with her outreach to others to undergo other procedures that were necessary to see what she would ultimately do to finalize. And the fabulous thing about it, she never stopped responding to my, this is not quite perfect.

Or she would call and say, I've looked at this. Are you having this? Come on in again. Let's look at that.

And the best of all, she took me to the oral surgeon's office to oversee a procedure, to make sure that the final result was not only complete, but polished. I'm ready for my perfect smile.

Doctor Jannie W. Talks about getting her new smile

A final, finally an opportunity to really speak publicly about my appreciation for Dr. Zandstra, Dr. Estela Zylika-Galler and not only her service but the services of her practice. This was a journey that began in my childhood and after many experiences across the country, I finally found someone who was willing to take the time, understand the value of a wonderful smile as intricate and necessary to my work, my life, my health, my well-being and Dr. Zandstra delivered on the dream I had for my mouse through her services. That's why I like coming to her office.

Anna L Talks about Doctor Zandstra and her team

Dr. Zandstra is extremely personable with you. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you've known her just because of the reception she gives you. She's so warm, she's kind, but then beyond that, she goes through every single step of her treatment with you.

She explains the whys. I'm a big why person. She explains why she's following a certain protocol for you, the benefits for it, the pricing, you know.

But overall, she just gives a comprehensively wonderful experience once you walk in the door. Interactions with the other staff here has been phenomenal. Actually, I've gotten to know them on a personal level.

They've treated me like family. There was one in particular that almost was like a sister because I came in so much, and I got to know her behind the scenes, you know, things about her personality, and we just clicked on that level. So it's not just a rigid environment.

You're welcomed in and you're almost part of the family once you join in.
